Upside Down and Inside Out … Staffing Ratios
Installation Tips from the Pros – Part 3—Ceramic, Hardwood and Laminate
All flooring installers have encountered situations
throughout their careers that demanded special and immediate attention. Perhaps
it was a problem that called for immediate resolution, or perhaps the product
arrived somewhat differently than expected.
It may also have been an area that did not match what was ordered or any
number of situations in which the professional installers always appear to find
a way to make it work.

How to Replace Laminate Planks
I
remember when laminate flooring was introduced to the United States
and attending several manufacturer training/certifications and going through
the hands-on process of board replacement. When laminate flooring was
introduced in the United
States in the nineties, there were not the
number of glueless joint systems you see today. It has been a challenge when
doing board replacements and maintaining a strong joint. Those of you who have
done board replacements have probably experienced this. The fact that there is
not much of a joint to glue to and hoping that the phone books or whatever
weight you can find and leave for 24 hours is not always the most comforting
feeling for the installer. Especially, when they tell the customer to remove
the weight after 24 hours and hope that the board edges are all flat. That and
the temporary joint swelling that generally occurs when using adhesive to bond
the joints can create headaches for installers and retailers.

How to Avoid Problems When Installing Stair Treads
Stair treads have been around for a long time, and are a
tough, durable and safe covering for stairs from heavy duty to light
usage. Growing up in the industry, I
always found stair treads an interesting material. I spent several years
working for a major manufacturer of stair treads, and recently started working
with another. You could say this is a
product category that is near and dear to my heart. I recently visited an office where diamond
design rubber stair treads were installed and asked how old they were. The answer, “1965,” did not surprise me. Done properly, stair treads will last a good
long time.

How to Choose the Right Adhesive for Any Installation
To help keep pace with design trends, floor-covering
manufacturers continue to offer a growing array of floor-covering options. No
longer are consumers limited to carpet, sheet goods and tile – they can now
enjoy the resurgence of homogenous vinyl, along with unique looks created from
cork, bamboo, exotic wood and luxury vinyl tile. Contractors and installers
looking to maximize profit while minimizing the risk of callbacks need to stay
ahead of the curve when it comes to new floor covering products, to ensure they
choose adhesives that perform effectively.
