The Washington State Floor Covering Association (WSFCA) will hold its sixth annual Installation Trades Expo and second annual Installation Contest, 1 to 6 p.m. May 18 at the Renton Community Center. Manufacturers will showcase their latest tools, floor preparation products, backerboards, underlayments, adhesives and setting materials.

This year’s Installation Contest will be on ceramic tile installation. There will be openings for 12 installers to compete, according to Debbie Tott, executive director of the WSFCA. “It’s not a speed contest, though time is an issue. It's a contest that is more based toward skill,” Tott says.

Seminars will include sessions on “Moisture Problems in Concrete Floors,” “Proper Moisture Testing of Concrete,” and “Ceramic Tile Claims Troubleshooting.” There will also be a presentation by a certified public accountant, “How to Become Compliant with Labor and Industries,” to keep independent contractors up-to-date with proper financial accounting and record keeping, and in compliance with Washington State regulations.
