BonaKemi USA has opened for 2007 its new Manufacturing/Training Facility in Monroe, NC. All 2007 Bona Sand & Finish Schools will be held here. The Bona USA Training Team presents four-day sanding and finishing schools for professional hardwood flooring contractors, floor covering dealers and salespeople. The National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA) offers the most-comprehensive training for wood flooring professionals in the industry. In 2004, the NWFA will host 17 schools throughout North America, focusing on five specific skill sets and experience levels: Introduction to Wood Flooring Installation, Factory Finished Wood Flooring Installation, Installation and Sand & Finish, Advanced Installation, and Expert Installation. Schluter-Systems will now be offering an Innovation Workshop in Anaheim, CA at the World Floor Covering Association.

The Wood Flooring Manufacturers Association (NOFMA) along with the National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA) and the Maple Flooring Manufacturers Association (MFMA) jointly sponsor a five-day Wood Flooring School. The course covers installation of both unfinished and factory finished solid strip, engineered, and parquet flooring; sanding and finishing of these products; repair and refinishing; trouble shooting; and other related subjects. Tile & Stone

Aqua Mix offers the Independent Care & Maintenance Applicator program. The program will offer a wide range of training and techniques to its students. Upon completion of the course, the trained applicators will be armed with the tools and know-how to specialize in sealing, cleaning, refinishing and troubleshooting of hard surfaces, including tile, stone, and grout. The Ceramic Tile Education Foundation (CTEF) currently has over 30 educational and training courses available covering all facets of tile and the installation process. All methods taught comply with nationally recognized installation guidelines and will be presented in non-proprietary fashion. Both introductory and advanced courses are currently scheduled for the full 2007 calendar year.

HG Maintenance Systems offers one-day, hands-on seminars for natural stone restoration and maintenance, including instruction on leveling, grinding and polishing of various calcareous stone surfaces. For details, call (888) 615-2128.

The MAPEI Technical Institute offers courses in four different disciplines: Tile & Stone Installation Systems (TSIS); Concrete Restoration Systems (CRS); Surface Preparation & Waterproofing (SPW); Floor Covering Installation Systems (FCIS).

The NTCA Training and Education program is administered by Justin Woelfel, Jr., NTCA Director of training and education. The course, called Workshop+, is a three-day training school costing attendees $295 for the entire three days. Customized courses can be designed for interested parties. Laminate/Resilient

Amtico International conducts a Floor Installation Training School. Classes are limited to 14 people per session. For details, call (404) 267-1900.

Forbo Installation Training includes an Associate and a Master Mechanic curriculum. The Associate Mechanic program consists of product knowledge training and general installation topics including substrate evaluation and preparation, moisture testing, patching and leveling compounds, and the use and application of Forbo Moisture Limitor. This hands-on training, with a focus on the installation of Marmoleum products, includes: direct scribing, pattern scribing, seaming methods, adhesives, heat welding, and insets.

The Forbo Master Mechanic curriculum covers more complex aspects of resilient flooring installation such as flashcoving, design installations, wall applications, accent heat welding, and heat welding coved surfaces. Successful completion of the Associate Mechanic curriculum is a pre-requisite for this course.

Tuition fees for this training are $150 for Associate Mechanic and $200 for Master Mechanic. In addition to the long-established Two-Day Training Program, Pergo, Inc has designed a One-Day Test Program for those installers who have years of experience with laminate installation, but do not want to spend two days in a training class. The One-Day Test Program is NOT a training class, but instead it is a test to see if you have the skills to become an Endorsed Installer. You will be given a work order, a test area to work in, lunch and ten hours to complete the job…the rest is up to you. Regional Technical Representatives conduct local training clinics at the flooring contractor's place of business. These clinics are designed to familiarize sales personnel and installers with Forbo products. Clinics are offered in three-hour or all day formats. Flooring Technology Institute (FTI) presents a one-day course on field moisture testing & investigations of concrete and other substrate/subfloors. INSTALL (International Standards and Training Alliance) offers a four-year training program based on a curriculum reviewed and refined by technical and education experts from several major mills and manufacturers. Content includes theory and practice of proper floor preparation, installation and finishing procedures in all types of floor covering, with training standards for fundamental, core installer skills; graduated levels of skill competence and experience; written proof of theoretical knowledge; and hands-on skill testing.
