ORLANDO - The Tile Council of America (TCA) and the Ceramic Tile Education Foundation (CTEF) participated in a special bench project for Give Kids the World (GKTW) during Coverings 2002.

TCA members designed and donated colorful tile and installation materials for the concrete benches. CTEF members arranged for tools and booth space for installation. Several of the installers were students of CTEF.

Eric Astrachan, TCA's technical service director, coordinated the project with Kathy Aubruner, procurement and grants manager for Give Kids the World.

The six, 5-foot long, backless concrete benches will be placed around GKTW's Fishing Hole, a 51-acre, non-profit resort.

"My expectations for the benches were set high," Aubruner said. "The benches are colorful pieces of art. The children and families will enjoy them tremendously."

Give Kids the World partners with more than 300 wish-granting groups around the world to identify children with life-threatening illnesses who want to visit Orlando.

The benches were gifts from Coverings sponsors TCA, Ceramic Tile Distributors Association, ASCER, Assopiastrelle and the National Tile Contractor's Association.
