The United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. is a well-known symbol of the pride and support the country puts into its armed forces. So when the academy selected the contractors responsible for refinishing its recreational facilities in 2000, it was with the understanding that the project would meet the highest standards.
The 22,000-square-foot cadet pool presented a great challenge to Colorado Tile and Stone’s Jim Madder, who spearheaded the project. In addition to the technical requirements of the project, Madder was presented with a non-negotiable time frame: the pool had to be back in service for the new class of cadets arriving in the fall.
The 1-inch-square mosaic tile used in the installation was provided by Dal Tile. Madder’s installation team selected a variety of adhesive and ancillary products from Mapei Corp., including the company’s Mapecem mortar bed binder, Grani/Rapid fast-setting mortar system, and Ultra/Color hydraulic tile grout, to complete the project to specifications.
