The University of Michigan's final December consumer sentiment index rose to 86.7 from a 84.2 in November, market sources who have seen the report said.

The current conditions index rose to 96.0, up from 93.1 in November and up from a mid-month reading of 95.9. The expectations index, which gauges attitudes about the 12-month horizon, rose to a final reading of 80.8 from 78.5 in November, but was just below its 81.2 level at mid-month.
