Every few months, it seems a new floor covering product hits the market. If it’s not from a U.S. manufacturer, it’s from somewhere overseas. As an installer, it’s more often than not your job to determine how to install it, using the methods and equipment to best achieve your goal. And ready access to installation instructions, or any kind of instruction, is often not available.
Since you started out installing floor coverings, I bet virtually everything has changed. The products most assuredly have. The methods used to install these products have, as has the equipment required for the installation itself.
Have you checked lately? Are you keeping up with all these changes? Do you seek out seminars or schools in order to improve your ability to install all the various floor coverings? Do you attend open houses and talk with the manufacturer representatives about their products, or do you just wait until you have an installation that fails?
Have you checked lately? Are you the most qualified installer in your shop? If not, why not? Help is out there, just waiting to show you the latest methods to improve your abilities. Give some thought to asking for help from your local FIANA distributor members. They are there to provide you with the support that you need, as well as with the proper installation equipment. If you don’t know who your local FIANA distributors are, call 1-888-88FIANA, or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Have you checked into joining one of the national installer associations? If not, you should. Contact the International Certified Floorcovering Installers Association (CFI) at (816) 231-4646, or the Floor Covering Installation Contractors Association (FCICA) at (248) 661-5015.
