The World Floor Covering Association's National Installation Contest at Surfaces 2002 showed once again how a single exhibition can appeal to both the professional installation technician and the casual passerby. WFCA Technical Services Director Jon Namba orchestrated the complex, two-day competition to perfection.

Since its inception five years ago, the National Installation Contest has become a focal point around which installation professionals gather from across the country. The eight regional contests held during the second half of 2001 resulted in 20 of the finest installers qualifying to compete in two categories, 10 in carpet and 10 in resilient, during the Surfaces trade show and exhibition in Las Vegas.

This year's competition, co-sponsored by FCI and National Floor Trends magazines, included a number of past competitors as well as a collection of fresh faces. The Feb. 1 awards ceremony, at which the first- and second-place winners were recognized, saw two first-time winners standing alongside a pair of veteran trophy takers.

The blueprints for next year's contest are already on the drawing board. Installation mechanics interested in competing in the 2003 event should get in touch with the WFCA this summer.

And now, the 2002 WFCA National Installation Contest winners:
