Recently, I spent three days immersed in the world of installation, attending the 13th annual CFI Convention in Arlington, Texas. Within five minutes of entering the convention area, an installer came up to me and said, "I really loved your editorial in the last issue of FCI." His comments really made my day, and during the rest of the event, numerous other readers shared their thoughts and ideas about what we should be covering in the magazine, and how it should be covered. As an editor, this information is invaluable, as it helps me to better serve our readership by providing the information they need. Many of these comments and ideas will be incorporated into future articles in FCI, and our publication will be even better, thanks to your input.

With this idea in mind, I would like to take this opportunity to ask you, our readers, to send us your comments, suggestions and story ideas. We would like to hear your installation stories, both good and bad. What was your most difficult installation? What were some of your best installations? These are only a few of the subjects you could address. If you can include photos, that's even better. We take the time to read every e-mail and letter we get, as do our columnists. For example, Dave Gobis' article in the July/August issue prompted a wave of responses from our readers, some of which are featured on page 8 in this issue, along with Dave's replies.

Some of you may remember FCI's Installation Excellence Awards, which featured photos of the readers' best installation jobs. In the next issue, we are going to announce a new contest which will offer prizes to installers for their best installation stories. So, sharpen those pencils and get out your camera, because we want to hear from you.

Speaking of installation excellence, FCI is proud to welcome back former columnist Ray Thompson, after a long hiatus. Long-time readers may remember Ray from the columns he wrote for many years for Floor Covering Installer and our sister publication, National Floor Trends. With more than 42 years of experience in the flooring industry, Ray is a virtual goldmine of useful information. In future issues, he will take the reader through many step-by-step installations and address the issues that affect installers in the field every day. If you have a question for Ray, or a subject you would like to see addressed in a future column, please take a moment and write, call or e-mail us. Remember, FCI is your magazine, and your involvement will help it continue to grow and improve.
