May 18, 2007
Shawne Merriman, defensive end-outside linebacker for the San Diego Chargers, has been named the winner of the NFL Sakrete Sack program. For his efforts, Merriman received a $5,000 award, which will be given to the charity of his choice.
In addition to Merriman’s contribution, Sakrete has made a $2,500 charitable donation to the Sakrete Sack team leaders with the Carolina Panthers (Julius Peppers, defensive end, 13 sacks), San Francisco 49ers (Brandon Moore, linebacker, 6.5 sacks) and New York Giants (Osi Umenyiora, defensive end, 6 sacks). Moore’s charity of choice is Big Brothers and Big Sisters of The Bay Area and Umenyiora’s charity is Athletes for Charity.
“We initiated the Sakrete Sack program to help support America’s charities and to bring another level of excitement to NFL football games,” said Johnsie Beck, Sakrete of North America LLC president. The program will be continued in the 2007-2008 NFL season.
