The International Standards and Training Alliance (INSTALL) will be saying good-by to a retiring James P. Schmid, the company’s first director, and saying hello to its new one, John T. McGrath.

A 24-year veteran of the flooring industry, McGrath will be expanding INSTALL’s alliance program as one of his priorities, placing technical and educational experts from leading mills and manufacturers into the role of advising on INSTALL curriculum.

“We certainly will miss the experience and insight that Jim provided,” David Meberg stated, INSTALL’s labor-management committee chairman and consolidated carpet president. “but we are confident that John has the experience and vision to continue INSTALL’s mission.”

Schmid was named director of INSTALL in 2001 and was an original member of the International Labor-Management Committee for the Floor Covering Industry (LMCFCI), INSTALL’s creator.

McGrath’s most recent position was business manager and president of INSTALL local 1823, and vp of the Metropolitan Regional Council of Carpenters. McGrath expanded the Local’s membership by 50 percent and its contractor base by 66 percent within a five-year period.
