In efforts to keep installers, retailers and salespeople updated with the latest techniques in flooring installation, the International Certified Floorcovering Installers Association (CFI) and the World Floor Covering Association (WFCA) continue to offer training for those working with carpet, laminate, hardwood and ceramic. Having held over 60 events this year with an expected 21 events for 2007, the companies'' 2- to 5-day courses supply installers with fresh technical knowledge and hands-on-training, according to CFI.

CFI and WFCA are currently preparing for their Installation of Flooring Inspection Course for the Maryland Northern Virginia Floor Covering Association slated for December 5-6. A session exclusively for retailers, CFI founder/CEO Jim Walker will discuss how to identify and solve problems, how to work with installers and manufacturers before and after problems surface and how to focus on customer satisfaction in the installation filed.

In commenting about CFI''s and WFCA''s involvement with educating flooring installers, CFI training director Tony Buckardt stated, "It''s no longer ''how many years'' one has been in the trade, but the importance of attending the latest educational events," said Buckardt. "Installers can no longer state that they have been ''doing this'' for 15-30 years and expect to receive recognition; new products and new techniques surface daily in our field."

CFI and WFCA''s course topics include site conditions, testing equipment, floor preparation and custom installations, and are equipped with power tools, adhesives, nails and wood products for participation. Amongst trainees are industry sales reps, benefiting from such courses as Estimating and Installation for Inspectors, while customers can use the CFI website for installation insights. Sponsors for past events include Carpet Cushions and Supplies Distributors (CCS) and Mohawk Industries.

"Our association acknowledges that those attending [CFI''s and WFCA''s courses] make a commitment to learning and enhancing their skills," said Stephen Aked, president of Floor Covering Institute of Ontario (Canada)(FIO). "It is our goal to provide the type of training that accomplishes this."
