The Ceramic Tile Distributors Association (CTDA) and the
Tile Council of North America (TCNA) will launch the Porcelain Tile
Certification Agency (PTCA) to certify porcelain tile. The initiative is
motivated by installation problems, liability concerns and marketplace
confusion.
The program, designed to benefit
manufacturers, distributors and end-users impacted by non-porcelain tile
misrepresentations, will consist of an application process that involves
manufacturers submitting samples of each tile series to be certified, and by
paying fees involved with the testing, as well as initial and annual
certification fees. Recertifying tile every three years will also be required.
The certification agency will be managed by a six-member board
of directors. Both the CTDA and TCNA, as founding members, will each appoint
one principal director, and first- and second-alternate directors.
