Brett S. Rugo, founder and president of Rugo Stone, LLC of Lorton, VA, and grandson of an Italian stone carver, has been chosen as the new president of the Marble Institute of America (MIA). A native of Barre, VT, Rugo had more than a decade of experience in various aspects of stone industry sales and project management when he started Rugo Stone in 1996. He has also served on the MIA board of directors for five years and will now serve as president for a one-year term.
Other officers chosen by MIA’s Board of Directors at the association’s annual meeting in Las Vegas in October are: Vice President, Gasper (G.K.) Naquin of Stone Interiors, Loxley, AL; Secretary, Michael A. Twiss of Columbia Stone, Inc., Tualatin, OR, and Treasurer, Jonathan Zanger of Walker Zanger, Inc. Perth Amboy, NJ. Zanger, a veteran of more than 30 years in the stone business, was also elected an MIA director. Daniel J. Rea, a senior vice president for Cold Spring Granite of Cold Spring, MN, was also elected to the board of directors. Rea has been part of the stone industry for more than 30 years.
David Sheehan has been named Mannington Mills’ vp resilient and laminate business. Sheehan has been with Mannington for six years, first as director of resilient business, and most recently as director of resilient and laminate business. Prior to joining Mannington, Sheehan was with Pergo for seven years in roles including business development manager in Asia, marketing manager, and senior product manager.
Bobby Berrier has been appointed senior vp commercial product management for The Mohawk Group. A 21-year veteran, Berrier will lead the strategic direction and growth of The Mohawk Group and its four brands: Karastan, Lees, Bigelow and Durkan. Prior to joining The Mohawk Group, Berrier most recently served as vp of Invista’s global commercial flooring division. He also served in other roles within the company, including vp of its North American commercial and automotive flooring group, global planning director of the nylon flooring division, and senior account manager and end-use marketing manager for commercial flooring.
DriTac Flooring Products LLC has promoted Chuck Hall to vice president of sales. Hall joined the company in 2003 as national sales manager. Prior to joining DriTac, he spent many years working with several major hardwood flooring manufacturers.
Ken Peden has resigned as COO of Kronotex USA. Peden joined the company in May 2006 and is credited for helping establish distribution of the Formica Flooring brand throughout the United States. He has left the company to pursue other interests, according to Kronotex.
In a related announcement, Travis Bass has been promoted to exec. vp sales & marketing. Bass has been an officer of Kronotex USA since its founding in 2000. He most recently served as vp national accounts.
In addition, Shane Carpenter has been promoted to vp of the Kronotex brand, and Fred Giuggio has been promoted to vp of the Formica Flooring brand. Carpenter joined the company in August 2006 as national sales director for the Kronotex division. He has more than 28 years of experience in the flooring industry. Giuggio joined the company in December 2007 and most recently served as divisional sales manager for the Formica Flooring brand. He has more than 22 years of experience in the flooring retail and wholesale business.
