Thanks to their quality, innovation and ease of use, USG tile and flooring products have a reputation for delivering strength beneath the surface. But did you know they are also designed and built to reduce their environmental impact? From raw materials to the end of their usable life, USG tile and flooring products are designed, manufactured, distributed, installed and disposed of with sustainability in mind.

It Starts With Raw Materials

USG uses recycled content in many of its tile and flooring products. USG Levelrock® Green floor underlayment is the industry’s first poured underlayment made with recaptured gypsum, a byproduct of coal-burning electrical plants that would otherwise be landfill waste. To add to the list, Durock™ Tile Membrane contains nearly 60 percent recycled content in the form of post-industrial waste. Total recycled content for Fiberock® Aqua-Tough™ tile backerboard and underlayment products exceeds 95 percent, achieving Green Cross Certification by Scientific Certification Systems. Plus Fiberock® Floor Protector Paper is made from 100 percent recycled paper.

A Greener Way To Distribute

USG’s extensive manufacturing network allows contractors to source USG products locally, minimizing the environmental impact of transportation. The USG tile and flooring product lineup also includes several lighter weight products that require less energy to deliver. In fact, with products like Durock® cement board Next Gen, which is 25 percent lighter than traditional cement backer, trucks can deliver over 30 percent more board at one time.

The Environment Is Indoors Too

From noise levels to low VOC emissions, USG tile and flooring products are built to enhance the health of those who inhabit the spaces you create. In fact, with no VOCs or formaldehyde, Levelrock underlayment and Fiberock Aqua-Tough tile backerboard and underlayment meet CHPS standards, one of the industry’s strictest IEQ protocols.

Waste Not, Want Not

USG is dedicated to helping consumers reuse and repurpose tile and flooring jobsite waste, which is why Fiberock waste can be recycled by third-party gypsum recyclers or ground on site for use as a soil additive. Plus, all Levelrock products are mixed on site, so they never produce any waste.

Because so many of USG’s tile and flooring products meet or exceed the requirements of the industry’s green building and sustainability standards, they are a perfect fit for your approach to sustainability.
