Alex Cruickshank, a veteran floor covering professional from British Columbia, is the 2010 recipient of the Rolf Wagner Floorcovering Apprentice Mentoring Award.

The award is named in honor of the late Rolf Wagner, who was active in the floor covering apprenticeship program in BritishColumbia via the various companies he worked for throughout his lifetime. As the owner of Maxwell Floors Ltd. in Surrey, B.C., he continued fulfilling this aspect of his work by way of his participation on many committees dedicated to the development and continuation of apprenticeship training. Most notable were the trade advisory committees for both the Federal and Provincial Governments and the B.C. Floorcovering Joint Conference Society; a labour/management initiative of the unionized floor covering industry in B.C. whose main interest is apprenticeship.

Rolf was also active with the United Brotherhood of Carpenters floor coverers program (INSTALL), and participated on the Health, Welfare and Pension committees to help ensure that floorlayer members and their families would have a good quality of life, both while working and in retirement.

Upon his death, a trust fund was set up in his name to provide an industry award of $1,250 to a journeyperson, annually selected from their peers, who demonstrates Rolf’s dedication to quality work, proper training and work ethic.

Alex, the 2010 winner, has been installing floors as a union member for 28 years and has been at Maxwell Floors since 1996.
