FCI columnist Jon Namba presents Proper Substrate Preparation for Hardwood, Bamboo and Laminate at Surfaces 2012 in Las Vegas, Nev.

Surfaces 2012 continued its focus on education for installers with a wide range of seminars and demonstrations covering all aspects of the flooring installation trade.

On Tuesday, Jan. 23,FCIcolumnist Jon Namba conducted an informative seminar on Proper Substrate Preparation for Hardwood, Bamboo and Laminate.” Speaking to a standing-room-only crowd, Namba addressed the need for proper moisture testing and understanding of product manufacturing tolerances, among other concerns for installers of wood and laminate flooring.

“Installers absolutely must understand the correct moisture testing methods for the flooring to be properly installed,” Namba said.

After the presentation, Namba addressed many individual questions from attendess, who were impressed with the quality of the presentation.

“This was a very informative presentation,” said CFI secretary andFCIcolumnist Dave Garden. “There was a ton of information presented in a short time.”

Claudia Lezell of Inspections Too explains the issues affecting wood and laminate installation at Surfaces 2012.

“It was a great session,” said installer Rick Jones of Houston, Texas. “There was an amazing amount of information in 1 ½ hours.”

“We had a good mix of people from all areas of the industry, from installers to manufacturers and retailers,” Namba noted.

Later in the afternoon, inspector Claudia Lezell of Inspections Too presented an information-packed session on Wood Flooring and Laminate Issues. Again, much of the focus was on the need for proper moisture testing and understanding of manufacturing tolerances.

In addition to the sessions, there were a variety of hands-on demonstrations of the latest installation products and techniques.
