The International Standards and Training Alliance (INSTALL) hosted the nation’s first Floorazzo certification course on Oct. 15 at the Elk Grove Training Center in Elk Grove, Ill.

All of the steps involved in the installation procedure were discussed during a classroom session before all participants had the opportunity to lay the floor in different applications, such as a monolithic and visible seam installation.  The monolithic installation gives the product an appearance of a full poured terrazzo floor.  Finally, the installers rehearsed the proper techniques to apply the required final finish for the floor.  When the day was over, all participants were certified in the Floorazzo product.

When Mats, Inc., a major flooring manufacturer and INSTALL partner, developed a revolutionary and innovative product called Floorazzo, they soon realized a need for a certification process to ensure a proper installation and limit potential floor failure.  Floorazzo is a resilient floor tile which uses recycled glass, marble and other materials and uses an installation method that requires techniques unlike any other flooring.

INSTALL Chicago and Mats, Inc. representatives Kristy Rivera, Rich Ruhlin and Neal Scott partnered to develop and implement a certification that incorporates every aspect of the installation process.  Mats, Inc. handpicked INSTALL certified contractors and 16 installers from the Chicago and Milwaukee areas to attend the training.
