The National Tile Contractors Association (NTCA) recognized industry standouts at its third annual awards ceremony, during Coverings at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla.

NTCA’S 2014 Tile Person of the Year Award was presented to Jan Hohn of Hohn & Hohn of St. Paul, Minn. Hohn is the third woman to receive this award during the six decades it has been presented.

For over 20 years, Hohn has worked as a one person, high-end residential tile and stone instaellation company. She has dedicated herself to the trade, serving as president of Twin Cities Local Tile Contractors Association (CASTA), NTCA board member, NTCA technical and methods and standards committee member and most recently, as chairwoman of NTCA’s training and education committee. Hohn's attention to detail, artisanship, knowledge and commitment to the industry have also earned her the NTCA Five Star Contractor certificate.

Eric Astrachan, executive director of the Tile Council of North America (TCNA), received the Joe A. Tarver Lifetime Achievement Award, offered to a leader in the tile and stone industry who dedicates his/her career to advancing the trade.

In presenting the award, officials said Astrachan has made significant contributions to the industry including incorporating both Canada and Mexico into the association, the development of the Green Squared program and the expansion of the TCNA Handbook and ANSI Standards, and he is an integral part of Total Solutions Plus.
