Real Antique Wood received NWFA's Floor of the Year Award for a project the company created using walnut slabs from fallen trees during Superstorm Sandy.

Real Antique Wood is the recipient of the National Wood Flooring Association's (NWFA) Floor of the Year Award.

The company's winning design features walnut slabs from fallen trees during Superstorm Sandy in 2013. After three years of drying, the wood was moved to the site of the project in Pompton Plains, N.J., for installation.

The staircase that was designed gives the illusion of a straight slab from top to bottom. For a cozy and rustic interior, entire slabs of the black walnut were laid from the home's front entrance and ran straight to the back—creating the appearance of runners.

According to Gary and Lisa Horvath, owners of Real Antique Wood, the project was well received on the company's social media sites.
