Bostik/NWFA Present Installation Training in Mexico
Roughly 200 dealers and contractors—including a 14 percent female audience—attended the Bostik/National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA) Hardwood Flooring Intermediate Installation Training in Mexico City.
More than 10,000 square feet of space was used for classroom presentations, hands-on installation demonstration and lunchrooms. At the event, 2,250 square feet of flooring were installed and more than 1.5 tons of self-leveling underlayment was used in 16 different installation stations.
“There clearly is a construction boom going on in Mexico, Colombia, Peru and other Latin American countries,” declared Daniel Sanchez, national sales manager, Consumer & Construction Business Unit, Bostik Mexicana, S.A. de C.V. “Most hardwood flooring dealers and contractors simply haven’t been educated on state-of-the-art installation techniques. Our modus operandi was to begin changing that on an ongoing basis, beginning with this event.”
Bostik brought in Jon Namba and Lenny Hall, both well-known North America hardwood flooring professionals, as co-presenters. Namba, who is FCI’s editorial director, is owner of Namba Services in Salt Lake City, and an NWFACP-Certified Installer, Sand and Finisher and inspector who serves on NWFA’s Membership Services Committee and has earned NWFA Craftsman, Master Craftsman, Vanguard and Ambassador degrees. Namba is also an NWFA technical training instructor for installation, sand and finish and inspection.
Hall is the owner of Endurance Floor Co. in West Park, Fla., a firm focusing on high-end wood flooring projects. He has won multiple NWFA Wood Floor of the Year awards and has taught at many NWFA technical schools. He is an NWFA regional instructor.
“Jon and Lenny did a fantastic job,” Sanchez stated. “They were totally professional. Together with our presenters, we focused in part on educating attendees relative to solution strategies using our UltraSet Single Step2, Bostik’s highest-performance wood flooring adhesive. Additionally, we demonstrated both in classroom and live sessions how best to utilize the newer Bostik self-leveling underlayments, which were introduced to the world marketplace at the beginning of this year.”

MIA+BSI Releases Natural Stone Installation Best Practices Video
The Marble Institute of America (MIA)+Building Stone Institute (BSI) has released a new video, Natural Stone Installation: Best Practices for Safety and Success.
This video is the Institute’s first collection of video modules focusing solely on installation safety, highlighting the fact that there is a striking difference between shop safety—where the environment is familiar—to being on location, where each setting is different and requires a clear plan of action.
Completed as part of the Safety Initiative set forth by the Institute’s safety committee, eight modules are included in the video, addressing the following topics: overview of installation safety, identifying safety concerns early in the process, requirements for personal protective equipment, installation case studies, best practices for material loading and unloading, manpower and equipment, large-scale commercial installations and tile-setting best practices.
Modules are self-contained and arranged so that they can be watched individually or as part of an overall installation safety program.

With sponsorship from Custom Building Products, the National Tile Contractors Association’s (NTCA) “Trowel and Error” video is now available in Spanish on the association’s YouTube channel. It can also be reached via tile-assn.com.

NTCA encourages distributors and retailers who sell to markets with Hispanic speaking customers to use this video link to promote this important educational video.”
