As a result of the multi-phase study to quantify the scope and severity of the lack of installation professionals on the flooring industry's sustainability and growth commissioned by the Floor Covering Leadership Council (FCLC) by the Blackstone Group, the research firm found that the flooring installation industry will be short 3,000 – 6,000 installers per year over the next ten years. However, a majority of the installers in the industry today are fifty-five or older, according to data from International Certified Floorcovering Installers (CFI), meaning that many are of the age to retire from the workforce.
In order to bring solutions to the installation crisis, The WFCA unveiled an industry-wide initiative focused on solutions. Details of the plan and the industry leaders who have signed on to support it through the “We’re part of the Solution” campaign were shared at an exclusive industry media event in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Beginning Jan. 1, 2020, membership to the WFCA will be free to all primary members, which include specialty floor covering retailers, manufacturers and distributors. Primary members who wish to access the WFCA education platform, can do so with a $100 donation to Floor Covering Industry Foundation, or to the new Floor Covering Education Foundation (FCEF). The FCEF, also announced during the media event, is an organization that will be dedicated to the recruitment, scholarship, placement, and retention of professional installers. The WFCA will also commit $1 million to solving the installation crisis through the “We’re part of the Solution” campaign.
