Face masks? Social distancing? Historic, epic, and absolutely insane: that’s what 2020 has been for the world. COVID-19 has changed our lives around the globe. There is no business as usual; there is no traditional education of attending schools for our children and young adults—all of a sudden, distance learning is the new normal. Additionally, both big and small businesses have been affected. Unfortunately, many small businesses could not weather the storm and many of them have gone under in a year that they should have been able to prosper, which is extremely sad, especially when they had no control of the changes around them.
I miss the camaraderie with industry colleagues at industry conventions and trade shows. Even though most all of the industry is trying to adapt to using social media and online meeting platforms, it’s just not the same as having a face-to-face chat, but fortunately, technology has allowed us to still stay in touch on a visual level. Make sure to stay engaged with all the educational opportunities that are still available on the meeting platforms. One can never stop learning.
Am I optimistic for 2021? I am, but I’m one that always thinks the glass is half-full, not half-empty, and always tries to look at things with a positive attitude. Will there need to be adjustments with our businesses? Yes, we’ll need to adapt to the changes and make sure that we can be as proactive as possible instead of just being reactive.
If you or anyone you know has been affected by COVID-19, or lost their business, please know that my heart goes out to you. I hope and pray that 2021 brings peace, happiness, success, and a positive impact on you, your business and your life. I’ll be seeing you all at future events; let’s count on it!
