A large revitalization project in Toledo, Ohio, presented an interesting flooring installation challenge—one that Commercial Flooring of Toledo was uniquely suited for, having training and certification for the product specified for this flooring solution.

Hensville is the result of efforts by the Toledo Mud Hens baseball organization and other community partners to transform the downtown space surrounding Fifth Third Field. Adjacent to the ballpark was a series of abandoned warehouses that have been transformed to house retail, corporate and restaurant space, including rooftop decks for Mud Hens’ fans.

The renovation of a four-story, 24,800-square-foot warehouse brought with it the challenge of a poor subfloor. The construction manager and architect were looking for a more cost-effective flooring solution than tearing it all out and re-pouring. They found the right product in Schönox AP, a synthetic gypsum-based, self-leveling compound. This fiber-reinforced material allows for a smooth and level floor that is poured directly over the existing floor, slashing the amount of demolition waste.

As the manufacturer, Schönox wanted to ensure that its product would meet the performance criteria for the client. Schönox inserted INSTALL language into the Hensville specification, requiring that the installation only be performed by an INSTALL Warranty Contractor.

Commercial Flooring of Toledo was awarded the bid, having received training directly from Schönox through the INSTALL training curriculum and specifically certified to install the product used at Hensville. Commercial Flooring completed the Schönox installation and selected flooring for the space included LVT, carpet tile and ceramic tile.
