This fall, Suzy and I had the pleasure of spending time with family and granddaughters at Disneyland California.

If you’ve been to Disneyland in California, you’ll understand what I mean when I say that life in 2021 was like the Guardians of the Galaxy ride.

From Disney Wiki: “Guardians of the Galaxy- Mission Breakout! After guests are seated in the gantry lift, the ride lifts up to the generator room where Rocket blows it up, freeing the team. As the gantry lift accelerates up and down, guest see the Guardians entangled in various situations.”

The ride at one point lifts and drops several times creating the sensation of weightlessness, not knowing what’s going to happen next, and the exhilaration of the ride itself. And that’s what 2021 was to our company.

We had a challenging year with scheduling, getting products and sundries, dealing with COVID-19 causing havoc, not only with some of our employees but with clients contracting the virus as well. We let our clients know that delays would more than likely be inevitable, and that held true on several projects.

The majority of installers around the country have been blessed with enough work that they’re scheduled out weeks to months in advance, but with delays on products, it means we aren’t able to perform at full potential. The longer the job takes to complete, the longer it takes to get paid.

One thing we definitely learned this year was to roll with the punches and come up swinging, and yes, we’ll continue to have challenges but it’s how you overcome them that matters.

As we all move into the 2022 year, what we learned from 2021 hopefully will better prepare us for the uncertain and allow us to be prepared for the ups and downs of business. Stay focused with your business plan, make sure to cover your costs, and keep the profit margins in the positive. And on a final note, make sure to take time out for you and your family.
