Luxury vinyl tile (LVT) and luxury vinyl plank (LVP) are experiencing a renaissance of sorts in the design world. High-tech printing combined with innovative adhesives now allow for the installation of resilient materials on walls, in wet environments, even in showers. Improved technology has also improved the formulations of these adhesives, replacing harmful solvents with water-based options. When it comes to adhesives, sustainability is becoming increasingly important. This demand is being fueled by new and more stringent green building regulations as well as growing consumer awareness of health and environmental concerns.

Much like architects and designers, contractors and installers can influence how “green” or sustainable a project can be. If contractors/installers are working on a green building project, they have an even bigger role in determining the project’s sustainability because contractors/installers are typically the ones who order the project’s materials. Using the right materials could be the difference between getting certified or not. Depending on the products that are ordered, the project team might be forced to take a different, possibly less sustainable, path.
