Dean Craft, president and COO, ISE Logik, the concrete moisture mitigation specialist for flooring, was invited on April 12 to provide an educational seminar on the major changes to ASTM 710 by the National Floor Covering Association (NFCA) of Canada. Attendance was from across Canada, Australia and South Africa.
Craft led the ASTM committee and authorship of the changes that affect resilient flooring installation by the accurate measurement of pH in the concrete. High alkalinity can be a problem for adhesive performance and flooring failure. Craft spoke with Dave Foster, concerning these changes back in 2021 when the standard was completely removed from the ASTM guidelines.
In November 2022, Craft provided an update on the standard as well as the addition of porosity testing and dew point to ASTM standard F710 and when to expect the release of the updated guidelines. He points out how the absence of this standard impacts flooring installers, manufacturers and project teams and where to look for guidance in the meantime.
In March 2023, the ASTM officially published its ASTM F3441-23 guidelines for measuring pH below resilient flooring installations.
“We were very pleased with the turnout. Our goal at NFCA is to create best practices in every aspect of floor installation,” said Chris Maskell CAE and CEO, NFCA.
