The 26th annual convention for the International Certified Flooring Installers Association (CFI) was held at the La Cantera Resort & Spa, in San Antonio, Texas, August 21-23. It was a great event for the attendees thanks to John (“Radar” O’Reilly) McHale, Chloee Lewis, and the rest of the CFI staff, and as usual, they did a great job of organizing the event. A big thanks to them and the staff.
The first day had two seminars, a ceramic prep seminar taught by Roy Lewis, Alan Ellis, Michael Buckhardt and Rod Von Bush. Also, a hand sewing seminar taught by the Natural Fiber Installation Certification (NFIC). PJ Arthur and Nate Hall were the instructors for that seminar.
Day two brought more educational and networking opportunities with Chris Gingrasso as the keynote speaker. The Associate showcase which had 35-40 vendors, is always a highlight of the convention, as it gives the attendees some one-on-one time with the vendors, and the live demo stage allowed the vendors to give more insight to their products.
Thursday night’s event was a go-cart turned bumper car event. The evening had a slight altercation with Danny Sherman and another driver colliding. Danny, if you’re reading this, I hope you are mending well!
Friday was more networking and education. Representatives from Tarkett presented “Sticky Situations and How to Avoid Them”. Measure Square presented “Technology in the Field from Estimating to Collaborating”. “Wanna Get High-ERD?” presented by attorney Jeff King, discussed marijuana in the workplace. And “Driving Production with Hourly Installers” was presented by Bern Boatwright and Troy Decker.
The lucky winner of the trip to Las Vegas for The International Surface Event (TISE) January 27-30, 2020, was first time CFI convention attendee, CFI installer #17,462, Marcus Wright, from Florida. Marcus received an all-expense paid trip to TISE and to attend the educational programs.
Next year’s CFI convention will be held in Orlando, Fla., August 12-14, 2020.
