The Spark Awards celebrate excellence in project design installed by its network members and is centered on flooring. Based on originality, quality of installation and design innovation, the awards represent outstanding craftsmanship, skill and expertise in the flooring industry. The awards were judged by the Fuse staff.

GP Flooring Solutions (Rochester, N.Y.) captured Best in Show for Del Lago Resort & Casino.

The Del Lago Resort &Casino was a high-profile project that consisted of 17,000 sq yds of both Ulster Mills Axminster carpet and Leggett and Platt pad; 40,000 sq ft of Armstrong VCT; 30,000 linear ft of Johnsonite millwork base; 3,000 sq yds of Durkan hospitality broadloom carpet; 11,000 sq yds of carpet tile (Mohawk, Bentley, and Milliken); 2,000 sq ft of Mannington LVT; and 1,250 sq f of sports flooring.
The project was supposed to start in July of 2016, but wasn’t begun until mid-October. The casino opened on time, which they attributed in large part to the work of GP Flooring Solutions.
Most Maximized Budget went to Signature Commercial Flooring (Calif.) for North Mountain Middle School Gymnasium.

Approached by the San Jacinto Unified School District in Spring 2017 with a set flooring budget for a new Multipurpose Room and Gymnasium at North Mountain Middle School, Signature Flooring was able to provide its client with a custom designed floor to meets its needs and stay well within its financial allocation.
Flooring Resources (Chicago, Ill.) won the Greatest Space Challenge for Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Flooring Resources have spent the last several years working on many different campuses with this hospital group, but this project was one of the largest ever completed by the company.
Careful planning and weekly coordination between Flooring Resources, the general contractor, and hospital was key to not impacting patients and medical staff.
Floors Inc (Omaha, Neb.) also won the Greatest Space Challenge for Orpheum Theatre.

Every step and riser in the balcony had to be cut on-site to fit, labeled, taken out to be serged, and returned to the job site for installation. There were over 1,300 lineal feet of serging alone.
The Most Aggressive Timeline/Schedule went to Signature Floors for Murrieta Medical Office.

The facility’s owner, arguably one of California’s largest medical providers, saw a dire need for the 80,000 square foot medical office to be erected in the region based upon its member population and the far proximity of other locations.
Once given the go-ahead for the moisture seal, Signature then had to project manage how to best execute installation on the two story building structure, already behind schedule and with many other contractors on site.
Dispatching two eight-men crews on staggered shifts, Signature’s installers tackled shot blasting the concrete and applying the epoxy seal at areas less impacted by trade traffic.
The Best Flooring Solution went to Noland Sales (Chicago, Ill.) for Saukview Middle School.

Noland Sales was able to provide the end user with different options to make their large pattern job stay in budget.
As a company, Noland Sales helped with placing and laying out different options of where each color should blend with the next.
With the Architects details in mind, Noland Sales helped to make each color flow together to create a stimulating learning environment.
The Best Flooring Solution also went to Floors, Inc. for St. Elizabeth's Hospital’s Radiation Therapy waiting area.

This area is a high-traffic entrance and waiting area in a major metro hospital where patients are often physically impaired and wheel assisted. Floors Inc. chose J+J Kinetex for its superior clean-ability and because it is low and smooth, without the slickness associated with most resilient surfaces.
The Toughest Site Conditions award went to Floorz (Colo.) for McCarthy General Construction.

The original subfloor condition challenged the team — the one-hundred-year-old building had concrete, gypcrete, and plywood subfloors with multiple layers. You could actually see the space down below along the perimeter and in several places in the floor.
The design included a blend of old and new, showcasing the original elements of the building in contrast to modern details and amenities.
The Toughest Site Conditions award also went to Commercial Interior Resources (Orange County, Calif.) for Skidrow Housing Trust Rossmore and Weldon buildings.

Commercial Interior Resources installed LVT flooring over existing VCT flooring in order to help the customer save on demo costs and avoid displacing residents for a longer time than needed.
Despite tough and demanding conditions, Commercial Interior Resources kept morale high knowing that the work was being done for a great cause, bringing a fresh and clean living environment and a nice, enjoyable living space to those in need.
Best Branded Environment was awarded to Floors, Inc., for Settje Agri Services and Engineering.

The client, an agricultural engineering firm, wanted its new facility to serve as headquarters for up to 50 employees, and wanted it to blend seamlessly into its rural setting with the new structure to look like a historic barn.
Best Branded Environment was also awarded to Signature Commercial Flooring for Ventura Medical Office Building.

The structure, designed to be a modern, open “Market Street” facility, showcases high stylized finishes along with local and regional healthy reminders and images.
Achieving a LEED Gold and Net Zero certification, the facility features environmentally sustainable elements.
To showcase the regions agricultural and beach communities, the MOB wayfinding showcases images of lemons, avocados, and strawberries prevalent in Ventura County.
